White clothes come in many varieties, from regular and delicate items to sheets and towels, but they all have one thing in common: They all need to look impeccably bright in order to impress. Thankfully, we all know how clothes are the whitest whites with the help of Tide, so let us help you with what we’re truly known for. Read on to find out how to clean white clothes by hand or in your washing machine in a few easy steps.
4 steps on how to wash white clothes
1
Step 1 – Sort
Sort your clothes based on colour, and make sure there are no dark-coloured garments mixed up in your white pile to avoid dye transfer.
2
Step 2 – Load
After checking all the fabric care labels, put your whites in a bucket or bowl if you’re handwashing, and into your machine if you’re using one. A cotton shirt and a rayon blouse can be washed at the same time. Use warm water and make sure you follow the instructions on your garments’ fabric care label.
3
Step 3 – Dose
To ensure an effective and reliable wash, use Tide Double Power for next-level stain fighting. If you’re unsure about dosing, check out our article on dosing instructions.
4
Step 4 – Dry
If you have a dryer, dry cottons on high and synthetics on medium or low temperature. Alternatively, you can place them all together in the dryer and take the synthetics out as soon as they’re dry. Air-drying your clothes is always a great option too.
How to wash white towels, sheets and socks
1
Step 1 – Sort
Gather white towels, sheets and socks that can tolerate hot water. Make sure you check the labels if you’re not sure.
2
Step 2 – Soak
For the best laundry results, soak your garments for 15 minutes in a solution of warm water mixed with laundry detergent.
3
Step 3 – Dose
Check the dosing instructions and dose the washing detergent accordingly.
4
Step 4 – Wash
Use warm water when handwashing, but don’t exceed the recommended temperature on the care labels. The reason for the warm temperature is that sheets and towels tend to get dirty easily, so it’s important to make sure the water is warm enough to remove all dirt and other build-up.
5
Step 5 – Dry
After you’re finished, hang your garments out to dry immediately.
How to wash delicate whites
1
Step 1 – Sort
Gather delicate white items, such as sheer blouses, shirts or undergarments. Make sure you check the fabric care labels and if all your garments are washable. There will be instructions whether machine or hand washing is suggested, as well as recommended washing temperature and drying method. Most delicate whites can be washed in cold water.
2
Step 2 – Wash
Use a gentle or delicate setting on your washing machine. Don’t worry about the temperature, Tide gets perfect results in every wash, even with cold settings.
3
Step 3 – Hand-wash
Hand-wash delicate undergarments or items specifically labelled “hand-wash only”. Dilute a small amount of Tide Double Power in a tub, bucket or sink filled with cold water, then dunk and rise your clothes under running water.
4
Step 4 – Dry
Hang delicates out to dry, but avoid too much heat, or dry them flat to maintain their shape.
